Oct 20, 2024 - Grade 8 (Sunday AM)

Hari Om Parents!

We started with 3 OMs followed by the opening prayer "Sahanavatu", Ganesha, Saraswati and Guru shlokas.

Briefly we talked about the Navaratri and Golu. Few kids explained what is Golu & what they did like visiting other friends and family, singing in front of God & Goddess and sharing goodies.

With 2 weeks of break, it really took a while to recap  the topic of Karma and Law of Karma that were taught 2 weeks back.

Then continued on with discussing the below topics:

  1. Do they believe in god vs not ? All said they believe in god because parents taught them and/ going to temple, praying before exams, etc., the answers were typical for that age.

  2. We discussed about "Prahlada story " and how his father Hiranyakashipu did not have faith in god. However Prahlada had faith in god by learning from wise and observing inature/universe.

  3. Continued with lesson plan  discussed the event from Mahabharata - After war how Pandavas were unhappy even though they won the yudha. Discussed about Pandavas meeting Bhisma in the war field while Bhisma was lying on the bed of arrows. With advice of Krishna, Yudhisthira asked Bhisma "If one wants to have a good life, what should one do? What kind actions should one avoid ?"

  4. Started with BMI (Body, Mind, Intellect) topic to discuss the bodily actions explained by Bhisma's which could result in sin and we paused the class as we needed to go Saraswati pooja. It was a short class but had a good discussion overall.

We will continue to talk about this with reference to episodes from the Mahabharata and character analysis. so it's important that the kids know the stories and characters well. we request parents to encourage the kids to read the Mahabharata book by Rajagopalachari.

We then went to the temple hall to participate in the pooja and it was such a wonderful Saraswati pooja.
