Oct 27, 2024 - Grade 2 (Sunday AM)

Hari Om Parents

Today we started our class with some warm up yoga poses and some jumping jacks

We started the class with 3 OMs followed by Sahana Vavatu.

We had the children take turns to lead Vakratunda, Saraswathi, Guru Brahma, Karagre Vasathe, Samudravasane. The rest of the class followed suit. Every week we ensure children take turns to recite the shlokas so they are comfortable and confident in reciting them. Please talk to them about the shloka they recited.

We recited the Dhyana Shloka emphasizing on Buddhir.

Buddhir - Intelligence
Balam - Strength
Yash - Fame
Dhairyam - Courage
Nirbhayatvam - Fearlessness
Arogata - Good health, free of diseases
Ajatyam - Alertness, free from laziness
Vakpaduthvamcha - eloquence

After the sloka we did the Veera Hanumana Bhajan. This is also in the My prayers book, have them sing the Bhajan for you.

Story Time:
Akbar and Birbal
Once upon a time, there lived a King Akbar who had a wise advisor called Birbal. Akbar wanted to test the advisors in his kingdom for their intelligence. He asked them to count the number of crows in their country. He announced they have to come back within a week. All advisors were running helter skelter to try to count the crows. Birbal was intelligent. He waited till the end of the week and then came to the king and gave him an answer. He said there are 27097 crows in our country. The King was startled to hear the answer. The king warned if the answer was incorrect he would be put in jail. Birbal said if the number of crows is more than what number he gave then it means there are relatives of the crows visiting and if the number is less means some of the crows are visiting their relatives out of the country. Admiring Birbal's intelligence, the King gave him a big reward. Moral: use your intellect.

Activity:
We made a japa mala today with beads and threads. CHildren enjoyed working on the mala. Hope you have seen pics. Pls send the japa mala with them every class so we can use it during the Meditation time. If they do not have one, please reach out. We can send the beads and string for you to make at home.

It was time for Swamiji's Bhagavad Gita time on the T V . Then after chanting we packed our bags.

We lined up to go to Aarti as we selected our line leader, door holder and caboose to lead to the prayer hall.
