Nov 17, 2024 - Grade 5 (Sunday PM)

Dear Parents,

Hari Om!
I hope you are doing well. Here's a quick update on what the children learned and practiced in class on November 17, 2024.

Class Opening:

We started the class with chanting OM three times, followed by the Dhyana Sloka ("Om Sahana Vavatu").

Story from the Adi Parva of the Mahabharata (Continued):

Shantanu's Descendants:

  • Shantanu and Satyavati had two sons: Chitrangada and Vichitravirya.
  • Chitrangada was killed in a battle, leaving Vichitravirya as king. However, Vichitravirya died young without heirs.
  • Bhishma, bound by his vow of celibacy, sought help from Vyasa to father children with Vichitravirya's widows, Ambika and Ambalika.
    • This resulted in three sons: Dhritarashtra (born blind), Pandu, and Vidura.

Pandu and Kunti:

  • Pandu married Kunti and Madri.
  • Kunti had a boon to summon gods and bear children.
    • Out of curiosity, Kunti unintentionally summoned the sun god and gave birth to Vasushena (Karna).
    • To avoid disgrace, she abandoned Vasushena in a river, where he was adopted by a charioteer.

Karna's Sacrifice:

  • Vasushena (Karna) grew up to be a skilled warrior and a generous individual.
  • Indra, disguised as a Brahmana, approached Karna to ask for his natural armor and earrings.
    • Known for his generosity, Karna removed and gifted them without hesitation, earning him the name "Karna" (meaning "cutter").

Pandu's Second Marriage:

  • Bhishma arranged Pandu's marriage to Madri, the sister of King Shalya of Madra, furthering the Kuru lineage.

Ganesha Pancharatnam Chanting:

We have been chanting the Ganesha Pancharatnam in class, and we encourage the children to continue practicing it at home .

Bhagavad Gita Chanting:

Finally, the children practiced Chapter 5, Verses 4 and 5 from the Bhagavad Gita. Please encourage your child to continue practicing these verses at home. You can find the chanting here: Bhagavad Gita - Chapter 5, Verses 4-5

Thank you for your continued support in helping your child grow spiritually. We look forward to more learning and practice in the upcoming classes!

Thanks

Roopa & Bhuvana
