Nov 17, 2024 - Grade 6 (Sunday PM)

Hari Om! Parents,

Reminders

We invite you to sponsor and support two major events at our Ashram this December (Sampoorna Ramayana Yagna and Sri Radha Kalyana Mahotsavam).  Please consider registering, participating, and contributing through donations or by volunteering your time for seva. Your support helps show our students the value of giving selflessly and the joy of giving more than we receive.

Week 6 Class Update
Class began with writing the Likhita Japa, followed by opening prayers and attendance. The children learned verse 2 of the Mahishasura Mardini stotram.

India, the Sacred Land
Topic: We reflected on the contributions of our Guru Lineage, especially Adi Shankaracharya. The class also explored the Lunar Calendar—how it differs from the Gregorian calendar, the significance of lunar months, special celebrations, and the concept of Adhika Masa (extra month) and fasting.

We also explored the topic of creativity with the fascinating example of Raghava Yadhaveeyam by Venkatadhri Kavi. This unique literary work is a palindrome poem that can be read both forward and backward, telling the story of Lord Rama in one direction and Lord Krishna in the other. It beautifully showcases the depth of creativity in Indian literary tradition.

We also discussed Aryabhata's sloka, which describes the ratio of pi—thousands of years before modern mathematics. This ancient knowledge played a crucial role in architecture, allowing for precise calculations and designs that are still admired today. It's a testament to the scientific brilliance and mathematical creativity of ancient India.

Bhakthi Workshop
We discussed Bhakti (devotion) and how to cultivate it. The children did a fun exercise where they wrote down their favorite color, animal, and natural element, along with the reasons why.  And what each of those elements represent.

Gita Chanting
This year, the children will learn Chapter 5 of the Bhagavad Gita from our Swamiji. Grade 6 is group Partha, and is assigned verses 1-26 to memorise.
Today we learned verses 4&5 and practiced 1, 2 and 3 .
