Hari Om Parents,

I hope you had a blessed Basant Panchami celebration with Maa Saraswati Pooja with your entire family. Here's an update on what we've covered in class so far:

Class Overview:

  1. Class Start:
    We began the class with 3 OMs followed by the chant of Sahana Vavatu.

  2. Shloka Practice:
    The children took turns leading the following shlokas:

  • Vakratunda
  • Guru Brahma
  • Karagre Vasate Lakshmi
  • Samudra Vasane Devi
  • Gange ca yumune caiva 
  • Saraswati
  • Brahmarpanam brahma havih
  • Subham karoti kalyanam 

  • We also discussed the importance of confidence when reciting shlokas.
  1. Dhyana Shloka (Buddhir Balam):
    We have completed learning chanting  Buddhir Balam shloka and explained the meanings of the following words.
  • Buddhir – Intelligence
  • Balam – Strength
  • Yash – Fame
  • Dhairyam – Courage
  • Nirbhayatvam – Fearlessness
  • Arogata – Good health
  • Ajatyam – Alertness
  • Vakpaduthvamcha – Eloquence
    A quiz was conducted to review the meaning of the shloka. We are working on a project related to shloka. 
  1. Hanuman Chalisa:
    The children chanted 17 verses of the Hanuman Chalisa, discussing the meaning of each verse.

  2. Storytelling & Moral Lessons:

  • Invisible Bone Story: We discussed the importance of an invisible bone and its significance in life.
  • Akbar and Birbal Story: Emphasized the importance of Budhi (intelligence).
  • Bhima's Arrogance Story: Tied in the lesson of Balam (strength) and the value of humility.
  • Famous people of India
  • The transformation of Ratnakara
  • The foolish timid rabbit  AND My daddy will save me 
  • Puzzles that make me strong AND we are working on the Project Hanuman's Backbone 
  • How Leo learned to be a king
  • Yes fees are doubled
  1. Hanuman chalisa explored -Who wrote the Hanuman Chalisa and why

  2. Tale - The Ox who won the Bet

  3. Storyline - Ramayana ( in short )

  4. Animal/Bird Activity:
    We discussed vertebrates vs. invertebrates, using pictures for identification.

  5. Strength Demonstration:
    Used a string vs. ruler to demonstrate the concepts of strength and straightness.

  6. Chanting of Geeta Verses:
    The children chanted Bhagavad Gita Chapter 5, Verses 17-18 ( we could not learn chanting 19-21 because of technical issue)

  7. Basant Panchami - We talked about the significance of celebrating Basant Panchami and watched a small clip in class on the same topic.  .
