Feb 2, 2025 - JCHYK Gr. 10-12 (Sunday PM)

Hari OM!

Today Sunday PM JCHYK Students went to lower Balavihar grades to help the teachers and participate in teaching. Students enjoyed interacting with children (sometimes siblings) and benefitted from the experience. Below are the summaries written by the students.

KG (Amit): we explored the concepts of Intelligence and Japa. We began with an opening prayer and an icebreaker where everyone shared their names and favorite food. We discussed the difference between the mind and intellect using relatable examples, followed by the story of Ganesha and Kartikeya to highlight how Intellect can triumph over physical ability. To reinforce the lesson, we completed a puzzle activity about Ganesha. We played a concentration game with objects to demonstrate the importance of focus, leading into an introduction to Japa. We learned how chanting Om can build concentration and calm the mind. The class reflected on these ideas while completing their coloring book. We concluded with a closing prayer.

First grade (Lakshmi and Shruti): we taught children a chapter from Ramayana. Afterwards we played a game of Rama says instead of Simon says. This experience was wonderful as the kids had amazing questions which was fascinating!

Second grade (Abhishek): we split the class into groups. One group watched a video about how Hanuman saved Lakshman, another learned prayers, and the third group finished working on a hammer art project. I watched the video with the students and answered their questions.

Third grade (Saurav): we reviewed the concepts taught so far in the class through a Jeopardy-style review game, where students would form groups and work together to answer questions for points. Concepts reviewed included the different avatars of Vishnu, the lessons learned from them, King Parikshit, and Vaikuntha.

Fourth Grade (Sahishnav and Karthik): we discussed the python which was one of the 24 teachers. We performed an activity of snakes and ladders representing the concept of python after talking about what python means through two stories. We related this concept to our own lives and asked the class to share what they thought about python and how they have seen it in their lives.

Fifth grade (Viraj): we continued the story of Jarasandha from Mahabharatha. We then played the Hangman game to reinforce the names of different characters in the story with the students.

Sixth grade (Mahira and Pranavi): we did opening prayers and then played a kahoot game about the characters in the Mahabharata. We clarified questions the kids got wrong and explained different answers. At the end we distributed Hershey chocolates to the children!

Seventh grade (Vaishnavi A and Vaishnavi S): we covered the Sundara Kanda section where Lord Hanuman sets fire to Lanka. While going over the story, we delved into the themes behind the numerous obstacles that Hanuman encountered. To wrap up our understanding of the Ramayana, we all played a jeopardy game. The class had so much fun and laughter!
