Chinmaya Vrindavan
Hari Om everyone,
We had the kindergarten class join us. They were very engaged and learned fast.
We started the class with Om and our starting prayer. We had kids come to the front to say the opening prayer.
We did a quick recap and then went over Chapter 15 and 16.
Chapter 15- Rama visits all of the Rsis in Dandaka forest as it is his Dharma to protect them from the Raksasas. 10 years have passed living in the forest. He longs to visit the great Sage Agastya and makes his journey there with Sita and Laksmana. Sage Agastya has great powers. Agastya protects the lands when Vindhya mountains start to rise, while everyone is attending Siva and Parvati's wedding in Kailasa. He kills the Raksasa brothers Vatapi and Ilvala. Vatapi has a boon that if he is cut into pieces, he will not die and come back in one piece. Ilvala would dress up as a brahmin boy, go to the Rsis and feed them Vatapi. Vatapi would come out of the Rsis from the inside and kill them. Sage Agastya knows who they are and digests Vatapi. Ilvala is also killed by Agastya.
Rama is honored to meet Agastya. He asks them to live near him in Pancavti. He gives Rama a divine bow and swords.
Chapter 16- Rama, Laksmana and Sita set up their dwelling in Pancavati. They meet Jatayu, who vows to protect Sita when the brothers are away. Surpanakha, Ravana, Khara and Dusana's sister, approaches them and asks who they are. She tells Rama that she wants to marry him. Rama tells her to ask Laksmana. Laksmana says that how can you marry and become a slave to a slave. Why not ask Rama again. Surpanakha attacks Sita when she realizes that she is in the way of her wishes. At Rama's direction, Laksmana chops her nose and ears. She screams and goes into the forest.
Game- we played Rama says, Freeze dance with a Rama bhajan, and listening to how many pebbles fall into a tin with their eyes closed.
Swamiji went over Gita verses.
Next class is Sunday Feb 23rd. We will have class for about an hour and then activities for Spirit Day.
With our Guru's Blessings,
Aastha and Kavita
