Chinmaya Vrindavan
Hari Om,
We started class with Om and opening prayer.
After recap of the last few chapters, we started Chapter 29 and 30.
Chapter 29
We learn about the meaning of Hanuman, one with big jaw and how he falls from the sky by Indra's thunderbolt. The devas all give boons to Hanuman to appease his father, Vayu after hurting Hanuman.
After meeting Sita in Asoka vana, Hanuman ji increases in size and starts uprooting trees and fountains in Ravana's garden. Raksasis question Sita about this but she denied knowing Hanuman. Ravana hears of the upheaval and orders his army, then Jambumali, then his son Aksa to kill Hanuman. But Hanuman destroys them all. Then Indrajit goes to fight Hanuman. Both are brave and strong. Indrajit uses his Brahmastra to paralyze Hanuman. The spell is broken when the Raksasas tie Hanuman with rope. Hanuman is brought in front of Ravana and tells him who he is. He tries to reason with Ravana to give Sita back. Vibhisana, Ravana's brother, reminds Ravana that he cannot kill a messenger. Before letting Hanuman go, he asks his people to light Hanuman's tail on fire. Hanuman's tail gets larger and larger. He jumps around Lanka and lights fire to the buildings. Hanuman then hopes that he did not hurt Sita. Sita blesses Hanuman and reassures him. He flies back to where the vanaras are waiting for him. They decide to go and tell Rama that they have found Sita.
Chapter 30
They are all pleased when they reach Kiskindha. The vanaras ruin the gardens that are kept by Dadhimukha. Sugriva realizes why they are pleased. They approach Rama and Hanuman is asked to recount what happened. Rama is pleased to hear about Sita. Hanuman gives Rama Sita's jewel- Sikha-mani and remembers the time in the forest with Sita. Rama embraces Hanuman. They gather the army and set out to the seashore.
In the meantime in Lanka, Ravana gathers his ministers. They all praise him and reassure Ravana that they can destroy the vanaras. After all, Ravana has defeated Kubera, won his Puspaka, Vimana. But his brother, Vibhisana, warns Ravana not to start a war. He reminds him that it was morally wrong to abduct Sita and asks Ravana to seek Rama's forgiveness. Even Ravana's wife, Mandodari, urges him to not fight Rama. Ravana does not listen. He gets angry with Vibhisana, who then leaves Lanka to find Rama.
