Sep 22, 2024 - Grade 4 (Sunday AM)

Hari Om Parents,

Welcome to our Grade 4 class, a quick recap of what was covered in class today.  Today was the 2nd Session of our class.

We all met in our classroom -- "Kesava" and after everyone sat down we did a quick recap of what we do first in every session. Kids responded that we say 3 Oms, Opening Prayers etc.

Opening Prayers: We all sat straight, criss cross, hands folded, chanted together 3 Oms, then Sahana Vavatu, Ganesha Slokha -Vakra Tunda, Saraswathi Slokha- Saraswathi Namasthubayam, and Guru Slokha - Guru Brahma . Everyone nicely chanted together and concentrated well.

Sloka time:  We learnt the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra and repeated it 3 times
and then we learnt KrishnAshtakam and repeated it. The youtube video which has the Sloka meaning and lyrics will be shared in the whatsapp group. Please make kids practice, some kids know it already.

After this attendance was taken.

Activity 1:  We discussed and showed - 3 Glasses One Full, One Half Empty, and One Empty- and explained that we need to be ready to receive the Guru's teachings and words with an open mind and with humility and Like the Crescent Moon blooming to a full Moon - we need to know expand our learning by surrendering to Guru. Kids shared interesting ideas when asked for their views. Just like a dry sponge when dipped in a bucket of water, absorbs the maximum water, we should be ready to absorb the teachings from the Guru.

Activity 2:  Steady like a Mountain : We asked all the kids to stand in Tree Pose and kept track of how long they are able to stand steady, and then we asked them to make group of 3 kids, and one kid tries to stay in any pose of their choice, while the other kids try to distract them. Kids had fun doing both these, and they happily mingled with their friends, had some enjoyable moments together.

Brainstorming: What can't be cured, Must be endured: Through the story of the Researcher, we learnt that we should try to make the best choice and have the best atitudes, even when something goes wrong and not get angry or upset with the situation.

My 24 Gurus - First Guru: Mother Earth Through a puzzle - Kids guessed the first guru as Mother Earth - who always gives us everything and still Forgives the wrong things we do to her.
Forgiveness: Through the Story of the Mango and the little boy, we learnt that Forgiveness is a great quality to have, no matter who we are.

Story: The Giving Tree: Through the Story of the Giving Tree, we learnt that we should not be selfish, and keep taking from them always, but instead we need to show our love, affection, gratitude and appreciation to our parents, our well wishers and be kind to all always.

Brainstorming: Steadfast like a Thumb: We discussed why the Thumb is away from other fingers thru a small story, and shared that sometimes you need to hold steadfast to your principles, and do the right thing, by Sticking to our values, beliefs and culture even if you alone are doing it.

Quiz time: We had prepared a Fun Quiz of 5 questions (via slides), which was about what was covered in the class.  Kids enjoyed it, and actively participated, vying with each other to get to respond to the question.

Geetha Chanting Primer Video: was played, and we all chanted some of the words to help us get familiar with it to help recite BG Ch 5 in the next classes.

And then we briefly discussed Ganesh Chathurthi and how it's celebrated, next week is the House Inaugural, so kids will get to do some fun stuff related to Lord Ganesha.
and then we all went to the prayer hall for Assembly, for Aarthi and Pledge.

It was a great session today, kids actively participated, and we had a lot of fun overall and especially with the Activities.  Some pictures were taken, which will be shared in the whatsapp group.

Exit ticket: We asked Kids to ask their Parents the question -- as to why the Thumb is away from the other fingers and get their responses. And we asked to learn Krishnashtakam.
