Hari om everyone,
Here's our weekly synopsis. We started the class with meditation. Today's meditation was a little more detailed. We contemplated the posture for sitting in meditation, the focus, the thoughts that we should dwell upon, etc. We later saw that this is exactly what Krishna had advised Arjuna!
Then we did the Geeta chanting of chapter 5.
Quirky Question (QQ) of the Day: I can fill a room, but I take up no space. What am I?
As always, we had interesting answers — air and sound. They can work too, but the answer we were looking for was — Light.
We correlated light to our chapter as below —
"I can fill a room" — Light, like consciousness or awareness, fills the mind and heart during meditation.
"But take up no space" — Just as the self or spirit has no physical form, yet it is the essence of all existence.
After summarizing Geeta Chapter 5 from last class, we moved on to learn about the teachings in Chapter 6. It is called Dhyaana yoga.
Arjuna asked Krishna how he would control his mind, which is as difficult as grabbing air with his fist! To that, Krishna gave this entire chapter, telling him how, through dhyaana (meditation), he can train his mind to focus and remain unwavered.
Krishna gave precise steps starting from where to sit, how to sit, what to do, and how/where to focus. We had applied this during our meditation at the beginning of class.
We broke the discussion here to plan another 'Fun Day Out' for our class, along with any of the alumni who may be available on June 1st. Please check out our WhatsApp group for more details and confirm participation.
Until next time, have a great Memorial Day break and ponder over -
Regards,
Rashmi.
