Our class was taught by 4 enthusiastic JCHYKS. Class had fun playing their review games. Below is from the lesson taught by them.

Lesson:

Mahabharata:

There was a quick recap done with a matching game/true or false questions by highschoolers.

Story continued……With Keechaka's death, Duryodhana became suspicious about pandavas' hideout in Matsya kingdom. The King of Trigartas, Susarama who was often defeated by Keechaka decided to attack King Virata, as Keechaka was now dead. Duryodhana along with the rest of the Kauravas• decided to help Susarama. Susarama and his army launched a surprise attack on the southern side of Matsya by stealing the cattle. The cowherds unable to protect themselves came to the king for help. King Virata and his army prepared themselves for the fight. The Pandavas offered to help King Virata. Susharma was defeated in the battle with fierce combat by Bhima. Virat was very pleased with Pandavas. In the meanwhile, Duryodhana along with Bhishma and other Kauravas attacked the northern side of Matsya. Prince Uttara, son of Virata, was forced to fight the war. With no choice, taking Brihanala as his charioteer, he approached the kaurava army. Uttara trembled when he saw the size of the Kaurava's army and in fear decided to return back to his palace. But Brihannala caught up with him and told him to fight like a Kshatriya. Brihannala let Uttara take control of the horses, while he fought. He revealed his and other pandavas' identity to Utttara. Uttara was shocked and asked Arjuna for his forgiveness. At the battle Duryodhana recognized Arjuna and told Bhishma that the thirteenth year was not yet complete. Pandavas would now have to serve another twelve years in the forest. However, Bhishma corrected him by saying the Pandavas had served their time successfully. Arjuna single-handedly and skillfully defeated the Kauravas army and recovered the cattle for the cowherds.

Highschoolers tested the kids with a matching game on 10 names of Arjuna

Colorful India:

In this section, we covered the following points with the help of this presentation:

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/18Kd3eEMxVHpouYq6y0FebaZeB1ekgXXpSMKOWQOO8XE/edit?usp=sharing

  • Colorful clothing, temples, weddings

  • Colorful festival Holi

  • Art from Across India

  • Folk Art

  • Warli Art

The kids had a fantastic time as the high school JCHYK students led the class. The JCHYK students presented their slides, and after the presentation, the children were asked to share the types of artwork they have at home. Many mentioned Warli art, Rajasthani art, and other traditional styles.

To deepen their understanding, students watched a couple of videos on Warli art and were then encouraged to create their own drawings in class. Since Warli art primarily consists of circles and squares, they got creative and produced impressive artwork. Some students depicted themes like Radha-Krishna and children playing, adding their unique touch.

With some time left at the end of the class, we also explored the origins of the Holi festival. We covered both the stories of Prahlad and Radha-Krishna and viewed photos of Holi celebrations in Vrindavan

Thank you
