Apr 6, 2025 - Grade 6 (Sunday AM)

Hari Om Parents.

Below is what we covered in the class.

Shloka Chanting:

  • We started the class with our opening prayers.

  • We chanted verse 7 of Mahishasuramardini Stotra from My Prayers book - Page 48

Gita Chanting:

  • Class chanted entire Chapter 5 of Bhagavad Gita

Lesson:

Ramayana:

On the occasion of Ram Navami, we had a fun session where we read the entire Ramayana story using the Slideshare presentation from https://www.slideshare.net/slideshow/ramayana-32626274/32626274.

Many students were already familiar with the Ramayana story and were eagerly answering questions about the slides that didn't cover everything. Since we couldn't cover the entire Ramayana story in just 20-25 minutes, we had to skip some parts. However, the students were able to fill in the gaps and tell us about the missing sections, which shows how much they love the Ramayana story.

We also covered a special story called "Lord Rama and the Squirrel: a Thanksgiving Story," which many students didn't know about. It was an interesting story, and the students enjoyed learning about it.

Mahabharata:

There was intense battle between the Pandavas and Kauravas. Pandavas responded with equal and opposing battle formation for all of Bishma's strategies. There was a fierce battle between Arjuna and Bhishma. Duryodhana's frustration grew as he witnessed the Kaurava army's losses and blamed Bhishma for their failures. Bhishma acknowledged the Pandavas' strength and expressed confidence in their victory due to Krishna's support. The next day he gave a very tough battle to Pandavas. Lord Krishna felt that Arjuna's combat with Bhishma was mild and he himself dashed forward towards Bhishma to fight. Arjuna rushed towards Lord, apologized and assured him that he would fight to his full potential. By Duryodhana's taunts, Bhishma gave a very tough fight on the ninth day. Worried Pandavas approached Bhishma in the night after war and Bhishma reveals that he vowed to put his bow down if he has to fight with a woman. Pandavas devised a plan using Shikhandi, who had transformed from woman to a man, to confront Bhishma. Bhishma, bound by his vow, refrained from attacking Shikandi, allowing Arjuna to strike. Bhishma was overwhelmed by arrows from Arjuna and Shikandi, leading to his defeat. He lay on the bed of arrows. He chose to die at an auspicious time, after the beginning of Uttarayana, and spent his remaining days in prayer.
